How the Office Works

The office operates on a structured, process-driven basis. Matters are accepted after an initial consultation in which the scope, timeline, and applicable law are clarified. The engagement process proceeds through defined stages: document collection, legal analysis, advice or proceedings, and matter closure. All advice is provided in writing. The office responds to email enquiries within one working day. For NRI and OCI clients, the entire engagement — consultation, instruction, document review, and reporting — is managed remotely by video call, WhatsApp, and email.

Fees are discussed at the outset and agreed in writing before any engagement is confirmed. The fee structure depends on the nature of the matter — advisory work, transactional work, and court proceedings are priced differently. The office does not charge for initial consultations on clearly defined enquiries. Retainer arrangements are available for clients with ongoing legal requirements in Kerala.

The Process

How the
Office Works

A direct engagement process. Every matter begins with an email or a call. The office responds within one working day. NRI and overseas clients accommodated across all time zones — no travel to India required for most matters.

Response: 1 Working Day NRI Clients: Remote Kakkanad, Kochi
Three Steps

The engagement process

01
Enquiry

Email or call with a brief description of the matter. No formal documentation required at this stage. The office responds within one working day with an assessment of scope and what the next step is.

02
Consultation

In person at the Kakkanad office, or by video call for NRI and outstation clients. The legal position is assessed, documents identified and the approach discussed. The consultation fee is communicated in advance.

03
Engagement

Scope, fee structure and timeline agreed in writing before work begins. Documents prepared, filed and followed up. Progress updates at agreed intervals without the client needing to follow up.

Fees

Fee structure

Fixed Fee

Applies to matters with a defined, determinable scope. The fee is agreed before any work begins and does not vary unless the scope changes by mutual agreement.

  • Will drafting and registration
  • Sale deed, gift deed, settlement deed drafting
  • Property registration
  • Power of Attorney drafting and registration
  • Succession certificate application
  • Trademark registration
  • Partnership deed and society registration
  • Specific court applications with defined scope

Time and Material

Applies to litigation, arbitration and general advisory matters where the scope is inherently variable. An estimate is provided at the outset; the actual fee reflects work done.

  • Arbitration proceedings (Section 9, 11, 34, enforcement)
  • Commercial litigation before Commercial Courts
  • NCLT Kochi petitions (shareholder, oppression matters)
  • Title verification and due diligence
  • General counsel and advisory retainerships
  • Complex NRI estate and succession matters

The applicable fee structure is communicated clearly before any engagement and confirmed in writing. No work begins without a written fee agreement.

For NRI Clients

Handling matters entirely from abroad

All NRI and overseas client communication is by email, telephone and video call. The office accommodates different time zones and can schedule video consultations at early morning or evening IST to suit clients in the USA, UK, UAE, Australia and Canada.

The Power of Attorney route

For property transactions, revenue office applications, court filings and most administrative matters, the office prepares a Power of Attorney in India, sends the draft to the client, and guides execution including country-specific apostille or consulate attestation requirements. Once the PoA is returned and registered in Kerala, the office manages all local steps independently.

Country-specific document requirements

  • USA — Notarised before a US Notary + Secretary of State apostille (or Indian Consulate attestation)
  • UK — Solicitor-certified + FCDO apostille
  • UAE — UAE Notary + MOFA attestation + Indian Consulate (UAE is not a Hague Convention signatory)
  • Australia — Justice of the Peace or Notary + DFAT apostille
  • Canada — Notary + provincial apostille authority

After receipt in India, the PoA must be registered at the Sub-Registrar before use for property transactions. The office manages the registration process and all subsequent steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the office handle NRI clients who cannot travel to India?
All communication with NRI clients is by email, telephone and video call. The office prepares all documents in India, guides the client through country-specific apostille or consulate attestation requirements, and manages all local filings and appearances independently. Travel to India is not required for most property, succession and administrative matters.
What is the fee structure and when is it confirmed?
The office offers fixed fees for defined-scope work (drafting, registration, specific applications) and time-and-material fees for litigation and arbitration where scope is variable. The applicable fee is communicated clearly before any engagement and confirmed in writing. No work begins without a written agreement on scope and fee.
How quickly does the office respond to enquiries?
Every email enquiry receives a substantive response within one working day. If a matter requires more time to assess, an acknowledgement with an expected timeline is sent the same day. The office is reachable Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM IST. Video consultations for NRI clients can be scheduled at times suitable to different time zones.
Does the office handle matters outside Kerala?
The primary jurisdiction is Kerala, including the Kerala High Court, the Commercial Courts in Ernakulam, the NCLT Kochi Bench and revenue and registration authorities across Kerala. The office also handles matters before the Supreme Court of India and the Trade Marks Registry for IP matters. Matters requiring appearance in other state High Courts are referred to appropriate counsel with coordination from the office where the client relationship requires it.
